Pokémon White
I never played Pokémon White. I got White 2 on release because one of my brother's friends was super into the series. And while I loved Pearl, I didn't play too much of the series after that other than a couple of weeks in HeartGold. So I finally took the plunge in 2024.
In my quest to have a complete Living Dex in every generation, I figured it was time to take a look at the games that took place in my hometown. The 5th generation of Pokémon takes place in Unova, which is based on the US, more specifically New York.
So after picking the fire starter as I always do, I made it a mission to catch every single Pokémon possible in the game. I made pretty good on that promise and man, I really missed out. The generation 5 Pokémon games are some of the best. With a killer story and so many new Pokémon to catch, it's a real treat being able to take this journey for the first time.
I wanted to mix things up a bit too and challenge myself a bit this time. Being the self proclaimed Pokémon expert that I am, I figured I should try my hand at a mono-type team. Naturally with fire being my favorite type, and Unova being home to some of my favorites, I wanted to see how well I could play the game with only fire types.
With just a tiny bit of hacking, I was able to get the "Liberty Pass" which allowed me to get Victini, a mythical Pokémon that's just a tad overpowered for a normal run. With my trusty Emboar, at my side, I managed to get myself a Simisear who served me quite well, a Darmanitan with the worst stats that still packed a punch, a Chandelure which is one of my favorites, and Volcarona which is my favorite! It was a huge challenge trying to balance type match-ups with the moves that I had, and while it was pretty tough, it was so much fun.
