Hot Mulligan's "Why Would I Watch"
Hot Mulligan is the "#1 Hot New Band", at least according to them. They might also be responsible for my favorite album I’ve heard in 2024.
I was on a trip back in March of 2024 and I was on the hunt for more music. I love punk music and I think it’s the best genre there is. So I did what anyone would do, I looked up “Best Punk Albums 2023”. One name that I saw pop up constantly on lists everywhere was “Hot Mulligan - Why Would I Watch”. So I downloaded the album, along with a couple of others and took my flight across country.
I immediately fell in love with the band. The reason I love punk music so much is that it’s a cathartic release of energy. Screaming into a microphone about raw human emotions is what music was made for. And Hot Mulligan nails that.
“Why Would I Watch” is the band’s third studio album and it’s nothing short of incredible. With some insane titles that feel like they have nothing to do with the song, nostalgia invoking art, and almost non-stop screaming. It’s a wonderful punk rock record.
