Code Lyoko

"Code Lyoko" is one of those shows that I saw a bunch of as a kid. It was always airing on Cartoon Network and my brother and I loved to watch it. We were pretty young at the time and to be honest, we weren't really that capable of understanding the overall plot. It didn't help that there are only a few episodes that are really essential to the overall plot. And I'm confident that the episodes were aired in a pretty random order. Lucky for me, the entire series is available on YouTube.

"Code Lyoko" is a French animated show that combines traditional animation with CGI animated scenes. It's about some boarding school students who are able to virtualize themselves and access a virtual world. It's basically putting on a VR-headset with a lot more steps in today's terms. By using a super computer in an abandoned factory, the kids are able to enter Lyoko, where they fight against an artificial intelligence called "X.A.N.A.". By teaming up with another A.I. known as "Aelita", they're able to defend both Lyoko and the real world from X.A.N.A. trying to take over.

It's wild that this show made its way over to the U.S. and I'm surprised that it even got a semi-live action 5th season. It's one of those shows that you can just put on the background and not really pay too much attention to. There are very few episodes that I would consider essential watches, and it does get quite repetitive at times. With that said, it's the perfect garbage show. There's plenty of problems with it 20 years later, but you can't deny that it hits the right spot.
